Numbers are written in different ways across the world. When writing numbers in English, there are differences depending on where you are – the USA, the UK or the EU.

In the past, there was a difference between the US billion (1,000,000,000) and the European billion (1,000,000,000,000 – now called the trillion), but in modern use most of the English-speaking world uses the American version. The UK government has been using the American meaning of billion since 1974 for the official numbers it gives out.
It is important to note that hundred, thousand, million, etc. are always written in the singular. So, we say “two million five hundred thousand” for 2,500,000, NOT “two millions five hundred thousands”.
Lastly, remember that in the European Union we use a dot or a thin space to separate groups of three digits, and a comma for the decimal marker. The comma as a decimal separator became standard in Europe in early 19th century, and it is still used like this today.
3.465.990,75 or 3 465 990,75 – in the European Union
3,465,990.75 – in US/UK English
The International System of Units (SI) System accepts both the decimal point and the decimal comma, but it doesn’t accept the comma as a thousand separator.
